Ten years ago, in an article published by Foreign Affairs Magazine, Sam Palmisano introduced the concept of a new emerging business model he referred to as the “Globally Integrated Enterprise.”  “The multinational corporation (MNC), often seen as a primary agent of globalization,” he wrote, “is taking on a new form, one that is promising for both business and society. From a business perspective, this new kind of enterprise is best understood as “global” rather than multinational.”

A decade later, Palmisano reexamines the state of the globally integrated enterprise as a follow-up to his original article.  The world has changed presenting new opportunities and challenges alike, which he describes as “dual physical and digital worlds.”  How one optimizes the intersection of these two will shape the architecture of the global enterprise and be the true differentiator of success in the future.  The tenth anniversary sequel article, published by Foreign Affairs Magazine, is available to read by clicking here.
