On November 3rd Pankaj Ghemawat, CGE Project Leader, launched his new Center for the Globalization of Education and Management (CGEM) at NYU Stern.

CGEM and its faculty are working in collaboration with the CGE on the Business Models for Speed and Scale research project to examine the top management principles that will help enterprises maximize the opportunities of globalization.

Guest speakers at the event included NYU Stern Dean Peter Henry, Director General of the US and Foreign Commercial Service and Assistant Secretary for Global Markets in the US Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration Arun Kumar, and CGE President Chris Caine.

Professor Ghemawat reviewed findings from the annual globalization index, which he co-authors with Steven Altman. The index evaluates the connectivity of 140 countries as measured by trade, capital, information and people flows against the dimensions of breadth, depth, and directionality. Key insights that Professor Ghemawat shared included a top 10 country ranking of global connectedness, the increasing role of emerging markets in the growth of international interactions, and policy implications of his analysis.
